We care for over 60,000 objects. These include items from local history, natural history, archaeology, art, and social history.

What’s in the Collection?

The collection at The Amelia began in 1885. It was started by the Tunbridge Wells Natural History and Philosophical Society. The first museum was set up in the Literary and Scientific Society’s rooms on The Pantiles.

In 1918, the Council took over the collection. Amelia Scott supported the town museum and library. She believed it was “a necessity that cannot be postponed indefinitely”.

The Amelia has a long history of collecting and working with the local community. Our collection reflects the story of Tunbridge Wells and the High Weald. We care for over 60,000 objects. These include items from local history, natural history, archaeology, art, and social history.

You’ll find displays throughout the building. They explore themes like the High Weald, Subbuteo, science and politics, and Tunbridge Wells as the first holiday resort.
