An accessible, welcoming space for everyone – from our galleries and library to council services, however you visit.
Whatever you’re here for – the galleries, the library, the café, council services or a learning session – our building is designed to be fully accessible and our team is always on hand to help.
Before you arrive
Lifts serve every floor and accessible toilets are on the ground and first floor. A member of our team is always around to help.

Toilets and baby changing
Wheelchair accessible toilets on the ground and first floor, with pull-cord alarms. Baby changing and buggy parking on the ground floor.
We don’t currently have a Changing Places toilet on site. The nearest is at Royal Victoria Place, open Monday to Saturday 9am–6pm, and Sunday 10:30am–4:30pm.
Visual impairments
Assistance dogs welcome throughout. Lower lighting in some galleries. Monthly Sensing Culture Group for blind and partially sighted adults.
D/deaf and hard of hearing visitors
Assistance dogs are welcome throughout the building. Hearing loops are available for talks and tours – just ask at the Front Desk.
Autistic and neurodivergent visitors
Weekday mornings tend to be quietest. Sensory Map and Visual Story available to download ahead of your visit. Relaxed Discovery Days run each school holiday in a quiet room off the main route.

Visitors living with dementia
We want everyone with lived experience of dementia, at any stage, to feel fully welcome. Seating is available throughout the building if you need to rest or pause.
SEND students and groups
Bespoke learning sessions for local SEND schools and colleges, including handling and sensory sessions. We also offer work experience and run our Young Consultants programme.
Digital accessibility
We’re committed to making our website accessible to everyone, in line with the accessibility regulations. Full statement to follow once our audit is complete.
