His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester visits The Amelia Scott
Staff at The Amelia Scott in Royal Tunbridge Wells welcomed His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester on Thursday 9th July for a tour of the unique civic cultural space.
Opened in 2022 The Amelia Scott (‘The Amelia’) is a unique public space where culture and community come together, bringing council services, creativity and community under one roof. To date the space has welcomed 1.4 million visitors in just over 4 years, welcoming amongst others, locals requiring council services support alongside tourist from all over the world.
His Majesty was greeted by Lady Colgrain, Lord-Lieutenant of Kent , Mr Martin Lukehurst, High Sheriff of Kent, Councillor Beverley Palmer, Mayor of Tunbridge Wells, Mrs Denise Farell, Head of Facilities and Communities, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, Mr Dodger Sian, Vice-Chairman, Kent County Council and guided by Mr Jeremy Kimmel, Arts, Heritage and Engagement Director, The Amelia Scott
The Duke then proceeded to greet Amelia operations staff and visit the exhibition space to explore newly opened family focused exhibition Archaeology Adventure. The exhibitions programme brings together local stories, nationally significant collections, contemporary art and interactive experiences, offering the public free access to discover, connect and be inspired.
A tour of the space followed, His Majesty shown through the impressive atrium which houses the Kent Country Council library for the town.
Finally His Majesty had the opportunity to hear about the creative health programmes at The Amelia. The team at The Amelia explained the vision behind creative health and the immense work that is being undertaken to support local people with their mental health and wellbeing through cultural and creative programmes.
