SEND schools and colleges
We work closely with SEND schools and colleges to create offers which work best for you and your learners. This includes adapted versions of our popular learning sessions, or bespoke offers developed following discussions with the school, such as sensory stories and activities or work experience days.
If you are interested in bringing your group to The Amelia or would like to discuss an outreach visit to your school, get in touch and we will arrange a time to chat about how we can work together to create the best offer for your learners.
Onsite sessions are free. Outreach sessions are charged at £90 for a 60mins session.
Before your visit
We have created a short Makaton-signed Access Film to help prepare learners for a visit to The Amelia. Click here to watch.
Working in collaboration with learners from The Oaks Specialist College, we have also created a Visual Story for school groups, which can be downloaded here.
During your visit
Our site is located over 3 levels, all of which have level or lift access.
The Learning Room is a secure space, off the visitor route. There are accessible toilet facilities, an area to store coats and bags, a water dispenser and an area which can be curtained off should any of your group require a quiet space during your visit.
We have a number of sensory backpacks which contains fidget items, magnifiers, ear defenders, visual timetables and a number of other resources to make our galleries more accessible for your learners.
Please note, Tuesdays and Thursday mornings can be busy as the library runs a Baby Rhyme Time session for under 5s, while afternoons in term time tend to be quieter.
